FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

We talk about infertility when, after a year of trying to conceive naturally (or six months if you are over 35), you have not become pregnant.

The causes can lie with either the woman or the man, and in most cases there are treatments available to help you fulfil your dream of becoming a mother.

If you have been trying to get pregnant for over a year without success (or six months if you are over 35), it is time to see a fertility specialist.

You should also do so sooner if you have irregular periods, endometriosis, a history of pelvic infections or surgery, or if your partner has been diagnosed with a fertility issue, such as a semen analysis abnormality.

The sooner you are assessed by a specialist, the better the chances of identifying the cause and starting the appropriate treatment.

In women, the most common causes are ovulation problems, low ovarian reserve, blocked fallopian tubes, polycystic ovary syndrome or endometriosis.

In men, infertility is usually due to problems with the quantity or quality of the semen.
Sometimes no clear cause can be identified; in such cases, we refer to infertility of unknown origin

Fertility preservation involves storing eggs or sperm for use at a later date, when the couple wishes to conceive.

For women, the most common method is egg vitrification, a technique for freezing eggs when they are of the highest quality, preserving them until they are needed.

For men, semen is frozen, a simple and non-invasive procedure.

Thanks to these advances, it is possible to postpone parenthood without losing the biological ability to conceive in the future.
