Time-lapse is a photography technique used to capture events which generally occur at very slow speeds and are usually imperceptible to the human eye. At FIVMadrid, we use this technology (Primovisión) to assess the development of the embryo in real time. The Primovisión system has a camera which takes a photo of the embryo every 10 minutes. The result is a series of sequential images of the embryo’s development from the first stages of life. Analysis of these images and cell division times will enable us to select the embryos which may have the best implantation potential. However, further studies are required to confirm this hypothesis.
This service is currently offered to patients who have had good quality embryos transferred and do not achieve pregnancy. It also helps us select the embryos which can reach the blastocyst stage.
