When the ovaries do not release eggs on a monthly basis, there is an absence of ovulation called Anovulation.
Anovulation can be caused by hormonal imbalances and consequently becomes one of the main causes of infertility in women (around 25% of female fertility problems).
The hormonal imbalances that generate this state are due in large part to a poor diet, polycystic ovaries, stress or the excessive practice of high-impact exercises.
These factors can significantly alter the hypothalamus, which normally secretes gonadotropin (GnRH), which stimulates the production of luteinizing (LH) and follicle stimulating (FSH), essential for ovulation to take place properly.
The interrupted communication between the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland, directly affect the hormones of the ovary and its functioning, generating Anovulation.
There are also other factors such as obesity, early ovarian failure and hyperprolactinemia that affect ovulation in the menstrual cycle.
What are the symptoms of Anovulation?
- Irregular menstrual cycles
- Abnormal uterine bleeding
- Amenorrhea
- Decreased premenstrual syndrome
How is it diagnosed?
- Gynecological vaginal ultrasound
- Pelvic exam
- Blood tests to calculate the level of progesterone production
- Family history analysis
In some cases, the diagnosis is difficult since the woman can menstruate regularly without any abnormal symptoms that warn about the suffering of this condition.
If you suffer from Anovulation and want to get pregnant, in FIVMadrid we recommend In Vitro Fertilization, which will allow us to select the best eggs for fertilization and subsequent implantation. If you do not have viable eggs, we can resort to egg donation, which in many cases increases success by up to 60%.
