Lesbian mums

Families come in many forms, and at FIVMadrid we want to embrace that diversity. Every day, we help more women become mothers, and with our support, you can build the family you’ve always wanted. The ROPA method, artificial insemination and in vitro fertilisation for lesbian couples are options from which our team of specialist doctors will choose the most suitable one for your individual circumstances.

First visit for lesbian mums

At your first appointment, the doctor will review your medical history and go through the information you provide. This consultation will serve to answer any questions you may have.

If you do not have previous test results, a series of tests will be requested to obtain information on ovarian function, fallopian tube patency and the suitability of the uterine cavity for both women, depending on the treatment and each woman’s role in the pregnancy.

Once the treatment plan has been finalised, FIVMadrid’s patient care department will provide you with a personalised quote, explaining the available financing options.

Treatment will begin 30 to 45 days after the first visit if blood tests were not available, and almost immediately if they were.

How can FIVMadrid help you become mothers?

The ROPA method is the treatment of choice for lesbian couples planning to have a baby, but artificial insemination, in vitro fertilisation or egg donation are also options worth considering, and all of these can be carried out at FIVMadrid.

Artificial insemination for a female couple is carried out using donor sperm, which has been prepared in advance, and is inserted into the uterus of one or both partners. It is the form of assisted reproduction that most closely resembles the natural process of conception and yields very satisfactory results.

In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is also a good way for two women to start a family. The sperm would come from a donor and the egg would be inseminated

If the mothers’ eggs are of advanced age, or if there are other circumstances preventing the use of either of your eggs, it is possible to consider egg donation, using donor eggs.

The ROPA method is the assisted reproduction treatment of choice for female couples. It involves using the eggs from one partner to fertilise them in vitro with donor sperm and then transferring the embryo to the other partner’s uterus. This ensures that both future mums are involved in the process and allows you to share an experience that will bring you even closer together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Every body is different, and there are many factors that can affect fertility. That is why we carry out an assessment so that our specialist staff can determine which treatment is best suited to help you have a baby.

Hormonal imbalances are one of the most common causes of infertility in women. Levels of prolactin, gonadotropins (LH and FSH), progesterone, testosterone, oestrogens and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) can affect conception and pregnancy.

Diet, lifestyle, stress, genetic predisposition… all of these can affect a woman’s fertility. Leading a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet, regular moderate exercise and emotional stability will make you more receptive, but there are other factors where the mother or mothers will need help from FIVMadrid
